If you’ve never tried organic wines before now, then this month could be the time to try a tipple of a delicious, naturally produced and more environmentally friendly wine. The term refers to wine made with grapes grown in conformity with the rules of organic farming, including the exclusion of the use of harmful chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Reported benefits include not just fewer chemicals but also a truly delicious flavour –not to mention showing some kindness and compassion for the environment.

Choosing an organic wine over your usual tipple now sounds like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? The benefits don’t stop there! Read on to discover more advantages to organic wines, so that maybe when you’re looking to order yourself a brand new case of exciting new beverages, you’ll go for something new.

  1. Reduced Sulphites

What are sulphites, and why do I care if they are in my wine? Well, sulfites are commonly added to wines as a preservative. They are found in plenty of food and beverages, but unfortunately seem to be the alleged cause of unwanted aftereffects of drinking wine: headaches, tiredness and feeling sluggish! Whilst these benefits are still currently up for debate, why not give the unadulterated, organic wine a go, and test whether you find yourself hangover-free in the morning? Although we should clarify that drinking in moderation is advisable no matter what the origin of your beverage.

  1. A True Taste of the Terroir

It goes without saying, that wine in its natural form is the best reflection of the grapes and the terroir (the area’s unique environmental factors). Organic wine allows you to taste the full, unique flavour of the grape, without it being broken up by the addition of any unnatural additives and flavours. The entirety of the flavour of each and every organic wine, is a result of the characteristics of the soil, and the nutrients that the grapes absorb. If you’re searching for a true taste of France, Spain or Italy — or even lesser-known wone hotspots such as Georgia or Austria — organic wines are for you.

  1. Beneficial for you and mother nature

Organic wines, as mentioned earlier on, are herbicide and pesticide-free. Although we are certainly not saying that conventional wines are damaging to your health, going organic is deemed by many to be the healthiest option in many walks of life — be it eggs, vegetables or meat.

What’s more, organic wines do not contain any added sugar or unnatural colourings, only further promoting healthy living, but still allowing you to enjoy a glass (or a bottle!) at the weekend.

With regard to the environment, the benefits of organic wines are undeniable. The removal of any pesticides protects flora and fauna in the local area, even including water-based ecosystems. Organic vineyards tend to require less water, which is a factor that should not be overlooked in 2021. In a time when every industry must be conscious of the energy and natural resources it uses, organic farms typically have a firm focus on sustainability — which includes the careful management of water, electricity and chemical usage of course.

It’s evident that the benefits of organic wines to you and your surroundings are substantial. Not only this but they are bursting with vitality and flavour! We highly recommend that you give them a try, so you can decide for yourself!
